Beloved actress Dame Maggie Smith passed away at the age of 89. In a statement made by Smith’s family, it was stated that the famous actress passed away in a hospital in London. It was recently known that her health had been deteriorating.

Smith’s memorable film roles include Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter series and Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham in Downton Abbey. She also made her mark with her performance as Desdemona in A Room with a View and Othello, both of which were critically and audience acclaimed.
